Commonwealth Library Deposit and Free Issue Schemes
The Commonwealth Library Deposit and Free Issue Scheme was decommissioned on 1 March 2025. Legal deposit obligations remain in place for Government publications.
The closure of the scheme means Australian Government department and agencies are no longer required to provide physical copies of their publications to Australian libraries.
Departments and agencies continue to be required to meet other legal deposit obligations. To meet legal deposit obligations the publications of Australian Government departments and agencies can be deposited electronically through the National edeposit (NED) service.
Government departments and agencies can find information on how to comply with their legal deposit obligations via the link below:

The public can continue to access Australian Government publications through the Australian Government's Transparency Portal and the National Library of Australia's catalogue or trove.
