COVIDSafe update delivers improved registration process

28 September 2020

Today’s update to COVIDSafe delivers an improved registration process for users.

Since launch, the DTA – with the support of users and the tech community has made iterative enhancements to the app focusing on performance, privacy and accessibility.

Update details

Improved registration process

We have included functionality improvements to make it easier for users to provide their name (or pseudonym), age range and postcode. This information helps state and territory health officials contact users who are identified as close contacts.

Users who experience delays in receiving text messages will also be supported to complete registration. This release allows users to request and receive one PIN within a 5-minute timeout window. This will assist users in areas with poor reception who would receive multiple PINs and experience uncertainty about the correct one to enter.

Source code update and next release

We have updated the publicly available application source code in line with today’s release. People can provide direct feedback within the source code repository.

We are currently working on the next update to the COVIDSafe app, which we plan to release in a couple of weeks.

Visit the COVIDSafe website for more information or to access the application source code.
