Ask the market is now available from the Digital Marketplace

26 February 2019

The Digital Marketplace now directly supports buyers of innovative solutions through a new sourcing pathway for buyers: ask the market.

Over the past two years, we have been adding new features to the Digital Marketplace to improve the experience for buyers and sellers. Ask the market follows the opening of the seek proposals and quotes pathway last month.

Our new feature, ask the market, provides buyers the opportunity to seek an Expression of Interest (EOI) or Request for Information (RFI) for small-scale experimentation and trial products.

Ask the market allows buyers to approach the market with a question or a problem and incorporate the feedback before fully defining the solution requirements. Sellers have the opportunity to respond with innovative solutions, allowing industry to provide additional value and innovation to government.

The EOI/RFI style is suited to exploratory or innovative procurements. It uncovers new expertise or trial products, and emerging technologies. Buyers can use the ask the market pathway to get a response in 5-10 business days.

These changes to the Digital Marketplace, the inclusion of ask the market and the seek proposals and quotes pathway, are consistent with feedback from regular user research and engagement with buyers over time.

The new sourcing options create a simpler, clearer and faster process for buyers. It provides greater opportunities to sellers.

Over the coming months the new pathways will be reviewed, and revised as required, based on user feedback.
